Passing the Torch
Article by Tim Lofts, Past President
I first joined NSRDA in early 2015, responding to a Facebook ad looking for a Treasurer. Inevitably, there wasn’t a queue of highly qualified people looking to do it, so I was offered the position which I managed for a couple of years until someone with more accounting knowledge was found.
I became President during a period of turmoil with the prior President leaving suddenly. That was around 7 years ago!
Since then, it’s been a full-on period of development, from adding Thursday to our riding programmes, development of the Volunteers Car Park, through the Sensory Trail and onto the ‘Big One’ last year – the arena cover.
Along the way, we have also introduced the Operations Committee, which has been a great innovation for the Group. And now it’s time to hand on the reins to Christine, who I know will do a sterling job for the Group. She has been involved for 5 years now, has deep knowledge of RDA and has been chairing the Operations Committee for the last couple of years.
I am staying on, as Vice President, so Christine can get my input into anything over the coming time to ensure a smooth transition, plus I'm also continuing to drive our fund raising activities.
I’ll close by wishing Christine all the luck in the world – not that she’ll need it!
