Wairau Valley Special School

Many students from Wairau Valley Special School have received the benefits of attending riding sessions at the North Shore Centre over the years. 

These benefits include strengthening the whole body, developing hand-eye coordination and balance skills as well as social skills such as independence, confidence and communication skills.  The development of these skills has been transferred to the student’s classroom and home life.  The results are truly amazing!

The instructors and volunteers are well trained and have developed particular skills in order to deal with the variety of challenges our students bring.  Many of our students have autism, others have various syndromes and physical difficulties and several are non-verbal.  They take the time to get to know our students as individuals and tailor the programmes to meet their individual needs.
